Discover the hidden world of funky fungi inside our historic Victorian‑era Mushroom Tunnel Farm in the beautiful Southern Highlands. This atmospheric old railway tunnel has been transformed into a working underground mushroom farm, where exotic edible and medicinal mushrooms thrive in the cool, constant darkness.

Your tour begins at the Southern Highlands Visitor Information Centre (62–70 Main St, Mittagong). Upon arrival at the tunnel location, your expert guide will lead you into the tunnel’s echoing stone passageway and share the fascinating history of this unique space - from its 19th‑century origins to its modern life as a specialty mushroom farm.

Inside the tunnel, you’ll explore how mushrooms are grown using traditional and innovative farming methods. See a colourful variety of exotic fungi and learn why this environment is perfect for mushroom cultivation - enjoying an immersive behind‑the‑scenes look at a real working farm.

To make your experience even more memorable, all guests have the opportunity to pick their own mushrooms from the exotic varieties grown onsite and take home the freshest mushrooms you’ll ever taste. (Additional charges apply.)

This tour is family‑friendly and mobility‑friendly, ideal for food lovers, curious explorers, history buffs, and anyone wanting a unique Southern Highlands experience.
